Scoring Methodology
MRR Growth Rate
Green: above 15% MoM. Yellow: 5-15%. Red: below 5%. Based on top-quartile SaaS growth benchmarks.
Gross Margin
Green: above 70%. Yellow: 50-70%. Red: below 50%. Healthy SaaS companies target 70-85% gross margins.
Runway (Cash / Burn)
Green: 18+ months. Yellow: 6-18 months. Red: under 6 months. Calculated from your cash balance and monthly burn rate.
Customer Churn Rate
Green: under 3% monthly. Yellow: 3-7%. Red: above 7%. At 5% monthly churn, you lose 46% of customers annually.
LTV:CAC Ratio (ARPA/Churn / CAC)
Green: above 3x. Yellow: 1-3x. Red: below 1x. A 3x+ ratio means strong unit economics.
Burn Multiple (Net Burn / New ARR)
Green: under 2x. Yellow: 2-4x. Red: above 4x. Measures how efficiently you convert spend into growth.
Example: Series A SaaS Health Check

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a startup financial health check?
A startup financial health check evaluates your key financial metrics against proven benchmarks to give you an overall grade and identify weak areas. It covers growth, profitability, retention, and cash position in one assessment. Use it alongside the SaaS metrics calculator for deeper analysis.
What benchmarks does this tool use?
The tool benchmarks against established SaaS standards: 15%+ MoM growth (top quartile), 70%+ gross margins, 18+ months runway, under 3% monthly churn, 3x+ LTV:CAC ratio, and under 2x burn multiple. These thresholds come from industry data across thousands of SaaS companies. Read more about how to calculate burn rate and why it matters.
How is the LTV:CAC ratio calculated?
LTV (Lifetime Value) is calculated as ARPA divided by monthly churn rate. The LTV:CAC ratio divides this by your Customer Acquisition Cost. For example, if ARPA is $100/mo and churn is 4%, LTV = $100/0.04 = $2,500. If CAC is $500, your LTV:CAC ratio is 5x. Use our CAC payback calculator for deeper unit economics analysis.
What is a burn multiple and why does it matter?
Burn multiple measures how much cash you burn for every dollar of new ARR generated. It is calculated as (Monthly Burn - Monthly Revenue) / (Monthly New ARR). A burn multiple under 2x is considered capital-efficient. Above 4x means your growth is too expensive. Use our burn rate calculator to model scenarios.
How often should I run a financial health check?
Run the checkup monthly as part of your financial close process. Key metrics like MRR, churn, and burn change monthly, so quarterly checks risk missing negative trends. Before fundraising or board meetings, always run a fresh assessment to know your current position and address weaknesses proactively.
Is my data stored or shared?
No. All calculations run entirely in your browser. Your financial data is never sent to our servers or stored anywhere. The only data captured is your email if you opt in to receive the tracking template.
